Last Castle
a couple of posts back i talked about the 100 greatest war movies, but i realized one particular movie was not listed. its not exactly a war movie, but i ask this, what makes a war movie, a war movie? the answer is simple, the military. this movie is about an up-rising in a military prison to over throw the prison warden who fails to respect these men as soldiers. the prisoners lead by a 3 star general, played by Robert Redford storms form the inside and actually takes over the prison.
the entire movie is like a fucking chess game that goes on between the prison warden Col. Winter played by James Gandolfini and Lt. Gen. Eugene Irwin (Redford). simply awesome. i think people who like war movies and the military will like this movie. i on the other hand am a fan of Robert Redford, so need i say more.
there is this shot of the American flag toward the end of the movie, and i have to say that is one fucking genius piece of cinematography. i actually was in the idea the movie was a Redford production, turns out he was never involved in it, despite playing the lead role. well the movie ends in typical Redford fashion, prisoner Irwin dies. it is one hell of a Redford performance so go watch it, i recommend it.
