The Downfall of 'Mein Fuhrer'

okay, i'm a movie buff, well know fact. i've always had a secret love (yes another one) for war movies. my all time favorates are 'The Thin Red Line' and 'Apocalypse Now' (suprised it wasn't 'Saving Private Ryan'?). i think the reason why i love war movies is because of all those war series they had back in the 80's, remember 'Nam - Tour of Duty' and lately 'The Band of Brothers'. movies i think i like 'Black Hawk Down', 'Windtalker' and how can i forget 'Schindler's List', hey does 'Crimson Tide', 'The Pianist' and '3 Kings' count as war movies? (i think they do) and yeah yeah 'Saving Private Ryan' were majorly influential in my love for the movies. has anyone watched 'Dances with the Wolves'? now thats one fucking good war movie too.

anyways...

back to my point today i watch 'The Downfall'. it's a German Movie and i tell you, i'll recommend this movie to any war movie buffs and just anybody for that matter. the guy who plays Hitler does an amazing job. you'd think he WAS 'Der Fuhrer' himself. it was amazing. the movie is about the last few days before the German National Socialism Empire comes to an end, surrounding the suicide of Hitler. why beat around the bush, its based on the book 'Hitler's Bunk'. we all know about WW2, i mean we've seen it from the American point of view, the British, cause they were the good guys, but what about from the Germans themselves, this movie does exactly that, the closest we ever came to that was in 'Charlotte Gray', and for the first time, i actually told myself, i feel sorry for the Nazi's. the movie reaches out to you and really does touch you.

there is this scene where a mother kills all her 8 children because she believes there will be no future without National Socialism, that scene is by far the most horrific scene i've ever seen in the movies. for her to do that and later go play one hand solitare, freaking fucking amazing, her reaction and the way the entire scene goes by. i mean Brando in 'Apocolypse Now' was beyond brutal but this was just fucking horrific.

all the suicide scenes, was fucking scary, even i jumped out of my seat at one point of the movie. go watch 'The Downfall'. i watched the movie today after work with mohan (another movie buff) who had finished with his presentation. two well dressed men (both in suits) watching a war movie. everyone else in the cinema was like 80years old. i think most of them served during that war. most of them were crying on their way out. me and mohan were hitting on women outside st. johns center, i tell you being well dressed gives you balls, mohan was always afraid of approaching women, today the man was on fire, smokin'...

(in case you're wondering, i'm always a smooth operator)

now go fucking watch 'The Downfall', later...

i guess 'Braveheart', 'Gladiator' and 'Last Of The Mohicans' are all war movies too, but they are more like epic war stories. these are like the modern day, the 20th century war...

and since when la leo's are war people...'make love, not war' thats our moto.
